I turned down a place at Selwyn (too like the boarding school I went to in sixth form) and went to Hull instead ( both were unconditional offers so the results didn't enter into it)to the horror of parents and school. I have subsequently learned to love the place through the people I have met and time spent in Cambridge.
Now a generation later Sprog1 is being encouraged by her school to engage with the Cambridge University attempts to broaden access to bright kids from northern comprehensives. So far its been something of a disaster - patronising input in the wrong accents etc have simply confirmed existing prejudices - and the website (despite rather lame attempts at inclusiveness)actually screams "eliteness" to a bright northerner - which is such a shame. Good luck to TW!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7876613.post-1140170162124588342006-02-17T09:56:00.000+00:002006-02-17T09:56:00.000+00:00Hello and goodbye from Cambridge :-)pax et bonumHello and goodbye from Cambridge :-)

pax et bonumAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7876613.post-1140168254108390922006-02-17T09:24:00.000+00:002006-02-17T09:24:00.000+00:00Oh I'm quite jealous... Ah well...
Sorry, Mary...t'pther place, being the nearest city to school is far too familiar to all Burford types from endless Saturday afternoons mooching en route to the ice rink to hold any allure at all. Positively no maternal pressure brought to bear here!Kathrynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09171138485811816831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7876613.post-1140148271738224952006-02-17T03:51:00.000+00:002006-02-17T03:51:00.000+00:00I was at Christ's for a summer program in (gasp) 1...I was at Christ's for a summer program in (gasp) 1981.
