I first sang this in my teens, - and ever since have struggled to believe it's actually Candlemas without it. Sublime
Help now thy servants gracious Lord, that we may ever be
As was the faithful Simeon once, rejoicing but in Thee.
And when we must from earth departure take
May gently fall asleep and with Thee wake.
As was the faithful Simeon once, rejoicing but in Thee.
And when we must from earth departure take
May gently fall asleep and with Thee wake.
Oh thank you, that's lovely. A gap in my choral upbringing. How did I miss out on this?
ReplyDeleteIt's obviously rather difficult and didn't quite turn out this beautifully when I last heard it, but 9 year old A was very keen on singing it all the way home.
ReplyDeleteI too remember singing this as a boy in my local church and school choirs, and wanted to hear it again today, being Candlemas.
ReplyDelete"Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!"
