Success!

When we got home from Venice two weeks ago, it was to find that my assorted hints about how much I'd enjoy having a breadmaker about the place had bourne fruit...BUT because it was half term last week, the boys have been having far too much fun with the blessed machine to allow me to get anywhere near it until tonight.
So, it is with some excitement that I introduce my very first loaf.
OK so I was late to collect the boys from school, the dogs are unwalked and my grand plans to spend today ("day off") turning the house into a thing of beauty have foundered yet again, so I've missed the good housekeeping awards once more...but there is something hugely comforting in a home-baked loaf sitting smugly on the dining table.
The only question now is honey or cheese?

oh I am envious!!! Freshly baked bread ..what a wonderful smell :-)I want one but noone has taken the rather obvious hints yet!! I'd always choose cheese but am sure honey would be just as good ....

Enjoy

Easy - cheese for lunch and main at dinner, honey for breakfast, dessert and snacks :)

Oh come on - you and I know that Good Housekeeping Awards are totally overrated (besides what would you do to while away the anxious moments before the Archdeacon next comes to visit if you don't have a little tidying to do?)

Bread looks yummy :-) Serena has the right idea! (We are a two-breadmaker family...)

See, I instinctively know what to do! ;) Now all I need is a breadmaker ...!

I already have a breadmaker... she's called the GLW!

I LOVE my breadmaker. But my mother fusses about the little divot that the kneading paddle makes on the bottom of the loaf, because it makes the loaf hard to slice. (Mine is an older model...it has an upright pan with a handle, like a bucket, that makes an oblong loaf, as if you baked the dough in a large coffee can.) How does yours knead the dough?

The smell of freshly baked bread takes me back to an innocence of childhood. Summer afternoons when I thought the world would never throw any curve balls my way - the safety of Grandparents who I miss so much still 30 years later...

Cheese ofcourse

and a glass of something red!

A disturbing truth about homemade bread, whatever you put with it, is that a loaf only lasts a day at most in this house. Arrgh.
It is seriously yummy, and altogether not a good idea for a curate who would rather like to lose weight before the season for hiding in huge jumpers is past.

LChick...my breadmaker has two paddles, and ends up with small holes in the base of the loaf (unless, like DarlingDaughter, you leave the paddles sitting neatly on the draining board...whereupon, even the best breadmaker struggles to knead anything much. The shape of the pan sounds similar...
